I have been pretty much sold on the benefits of using a DSLR for work after seeing the likes of Sofia’s People. The workflow looks like it could be better, but the quality of the pictures is worth it in my opinion. I don’t think I will be in the market for a Canon 5D Mk2 as I would like to be able to sell my video kit and purchase everything I need. This brings me into the range of the proposed 60D & D400 that are allegedly due. As my friend Ade would was “Nikon for the Loss” the Canon does look the better option. I never buy anything without trying it first so I will probably give both of them a go first.
My main reason for this ‘thought’ is weight. I would like to be able to carry most of my gear in a backpack. This became apparent whilst in London after I’d finished a shoot. I found it hard to hail a cab with a heavy tripod in one hand and a camera bag in another. No offense to the southerners but I didn’t fancy letting go of them for a second(Manchester is much safer).
Now if only Canon & Nikon would hurry up so I can have a look at them!!!!
A little note about what I’m working on at the moment:
Kate & Paul’s Wedding, Shot this last weekend and am in post. Should have a highlights movie up soon.
Cheeseboard Productions, We have had to revisit some of the pre-production due to talent changes, but we are still on track. We have secured so great locations to shoot some of the remaining scenes.
Altro/Building Magazine, Round table discussion. Delivered a top and tail edit over a month ago, just waiting for requirements for shorter edit.
Decided to try out tumblr and I quite like it so I have decided to change my blog over to it so blog.andyhirst.com is run by tumblr and my site is going through a redesign. Faithful Films will probably dissappear by the end of 2009 as the way I Market my services need to change. I will still be oferring wedding film services but I will be doing it differently so to speak, but definately for the better. I also want to be able to show my other work along side. I hope going into 2010 I will have some great work to display.
